Rules/Guidelines for The World Cup 2023

Hello all

Here is a list of rules/guidelines for The 2023 World Cup, have a good look and post them on your forum for all players taking part to see,

You can email me with any questions you might want to ask, if anyone is unsure about any of the rules in place  @caaaustin@hotmail.com

World Cup 2023 Outline

Here is a brief outline of the world cup, and what is expected from you as captain.

There are 48 teams so there will be 6 groups with 8 teams in each group, each team will play each other once on all the formats, The top 2 teams from each group will go into the cup with the top 4 teams on the highest points that are in 3rd place spot from all groups, The other 2 teams left on the least points will go onto play in the plate with the 12 teams finishing in 4th and 5th places and the Top 2 teams on points from 6th place finishes from all groups. The Last 16 teams left on the lowest points, this is where the tournament ends for you.

In the event of teams on the same points, the team with the most wins will go through, if level then the team with the least losses will go through, if that fails there will be a playoff, 3 players from each team closest to the pin with the combined closest scores from the 3 players team going through.

There will be 8 players from each team to play each match in the group stages and the result stands after 18 holes win/lose or draw and will be played as Ranked match play

From the round of 16, all matches will also be played as matchplay, with 9 players from each team. Each match must have a clear winner, so sudden death comes into play if no clear winner after 18 holes have been played

Once a match has been played the result will stand and will need to posted in the WGT WC forum page

It’s the responsibility of both players to check for the correct shot clock, time outs and apparel on or off while in the lobby.

Any player having any advice on shots/clubs during a match will forfeit the match, as well, both the advice giver and player accepting that advice may be removed from the competition.

The last 16 will be matchplay only with 9 players from each team. Each match must have a result, Win or Loss only

All matches will be ranked/scored, no handicaps in the knockout stage.

The Seeding

The top 6 teams from last year will be classed as seeded teams, and will be split up into separate groups. Any teams from the same club will also be separated into different groups for the group stages, the rest will be drawn into the groups.

Arranging matches

Players have 5 days to friend/accept invite or they may forfeit the match,

All matches must be arranged by the end of the first week, if not, you must inform your captain. If there are still problems the captains get in touch with one of the WC team to resolve it (do not leave it to the last minute).

Any matches not played will be reviewed and if any player has been at fault by not answering messages, refusing to play or trying to protect their team points then they will forfeit their match.

Arrangement rules

Both players get their friend invites out early, 3 days please. If not, inform your captain.

Let your opponent know where you are and your time zone. If your time zones are far apart, which does happen, please try to accommodate and come up with a time that may be a little unfair to both… an unhappy compromise, that’s just a part of the World Cup.

Arrange a convenient time/date for you both to be available to play 18 holes of golf, saying “catch me when I’m green” does not count!

An example:

Hi thanks for the friend invite my time zone is GMT

Times I can play are,

Thursday 24th at 7pm to 9pm my time.

Friday 25th at 8pm to 10pm my time.

The more dates you can give them the better

If the match can not be arranged by the end of week 1 then your captain must know about it

Once you have agreed on a time and date, shot times and apparel must be discussed and sorted out at this point before you get to the tee.

Shot timers

The default time will be 90 secs and 7 timeouts but if both players agree then you can have any shot clock time you want, this must be decided as you are arranging your match.

Apparel

The default will be no apparel on. but if both players agree to having apparel on, like the shot clock, you can. Both players must agree to apparel on or off when setting up the match. There is an option in the game set up, under the shot clock time and timeouts that will toggle the apparel on or off, please set it to what you have arranged.

Players responsibilities

Once you are invited, you will go into the lobby, where you can confirm the shot clock, time outs and apparel on or off as per your arrangements. If you start the game, it will be considered that you have consented to the way the game was set and the game will stand after the completion of the first hole. So please make sure you check the set up in the lobby!

Disconnections

If a player disconnects and the game times out before they get back, the game will restart after the last completed hole with the same score. How you get back to the hole to restart is up to both players to agree on.

Example

If you're in a stroke game and it happens on the 9th hole, you may want to get back to the 9th in MP mode, as you can concede holes and give putts and get back to the 9th a lot quicker. Then write down the strokes you had on 9, add them to the holes already played and then restart back into stroke mode for the back 9th... If it’s an MP game, concede holes/putts until you back at the hole you need to restart on. Again both players can agree on how that is done.

We want everyone to use common sense and work it out between yourselves, so these are just guidelines! If you were clearly going to lose the hole that the disco occurred on you should concede that hole when you get back to it.

Example

My opponent made a great approach to about 4 feet, an easy bird, my approach was to about 12 feet, make-able but a tougher putt.... I then lost the internet when I was about to putt. We picked up the game from the beginning of that hole only this time, I put my approach to 2 feet and he put his approach to 15 feet. As soon as he was up to putt, I gave the putt and we halved the hole on birdies... Even though it was not clear if I would win or lose that hole before the disconnection, it was clear that my opponent was not going to lose the hole, so giving the putt was the right thing to do, the disco should never give someone an advantage.

If you feel that you have won the hole or lost the hole you come back to, because of the disco, you may make an appeal to the organising committee. But again we really would rather the players work it out between themselves in the spirit of this competition.

Once both players have agreed and the game is completed after any discos, then there can be no complaints, the result will stand.

A match cannot be claimed as a win through disconnections, players have to finish the match.

Squad members.

We have decided to allow up to 13 players in each squad this year (this doesn't include the captain, you can have a non-playing captain and still have 13 players in the squad) but all players must participate in the group stages to be eligible for the knockout stages. The exception being, if a team of nine players can't be fielded during the knockout stages (see replacing players in the squads). Any Country Club that is not permitted to play in the 2023 World Cup due to whatever reasons like unsportsmanship in a previous matter either within a previous World Cup edition or another event/circumstance, the members of that CC will also not be allowed to just jump to another CC and play.

Replacing players in the squads

Captains can replace players into the squad/team if any player drops out but they must be an active player in the clubs two months prior to playing in any round in the cup.

They cannot add to a squad, unless a player drops out, once the World Cup starts no matter how many players you have in your squad,

No replacements in the knockout stages unless a team of nine players can't be fielded,

Replacing players in a round match

Any player too ill to play, they must not be on WGT at all and only then can the captain find a replacement, but they will have to be prepared to play at short notice,

The replacement must be of the same tier/avg, if possible,

Captains please try not to pick any player who is or due to go on holiday during that round.

We have looked hard at this one because a few of the games last year could have been forfeited but the rule stood in place.

Tier concession

Any legend level 97 and above or under a 62 average will receive no shots/strokes off from TC/CH/TL’s and be classed as a L+

These are just guidelines and the organisers reserve the right to determine eligibility on a case-by-case basis. All other concessions will remain the same.

Match Play Scoring

Each match will be, up to, two weeks to complete,

3 points for a win.1 point for a draw, *draws only in effect for the group stage*

There will be a handicap system involved between tiers, if matched to play.

They will be designated from the handicap chart for the course we are playing each round. That will determine which holes will have the “air shot”

The handicap will only be in effect for the group stages, not the knockout stages.

THE HANDICAPS BETWEEN TIERS:

Matchplay

TCH/CH,TL vs L+= 0 air shots

TCH/CH,TLS vs L = 2 air shots depending on level.

L+ vs  L = 0 air shots

HIGHER TIER TO CONCEDE AIR SHOTS !

Captains

When you will send a lineup of 8 players during the group stage rounds. It's your choice what order you want them to be, whatever order you send is the order we will post on the matchups, it’s a bit like the Ryder cup, you have no idea what order the other captain will post and that’s the beauty of it. That goes to 9 players during the knockout stage.

**NOTE: All lineups must be sent to either Carl/Jess or Tom by 12 pm (that's midday UK time) on the last day of the current round, (that’s 12 hours before the start of the next round).

If we do not receive a team lineup by then, we will use the same lineup as the current round. This is because we do not want to have to chase lineups. Cheers

Send via WGT pm (friend me first) or by email:   @caaaustin@hotmail.com

It is the responsibility of the Captains to make sure all of your players have read and understood the rules and to also post them in your club forum.

CTTH CLAIMS/SPONSORS

Any claim for ctth shot must be posted by the player on the WGT CTTH forum page with a confirmation from their opponent verifying the claim/distance or post a screenshot either in the ctth forums or WC discord

any posts made by their team members/captains/friends will not count unless the player posts themselves first.

Now all there is to do is to go and have fun, enjoy and make a few new friends.

Cheers,

WC Team
